How do I unclog an exterior drain

The exterior drain is always exposed to leaves, dirt and other contaminants.

This debris can enter the drain and eventually clog it over the long term.

As a result, water stagnates on the drain, which eventually causes flooding inside the house.

Unclogging a drain, however, is not always easy.

But there are several ways to evacuate the stagnant water and facilitate circulation again.

So before you call the plumber, here are a few tricks you can try to unclog your outside drain easily.

Unclogging your outside drain with a plumber

The simplest solution to unclog an exterior drain efficiently is the use of a diver.

This equipment is specially designed for drain unclogging.

Also, always check to be sure no asphalt shingles are falling off from your roofing system.

Sometimes you only have to try once or twice to solve your problem.

The trick is simple. Put water in your bathtub and sinks.

Then you need to block all the adjoining vents so that the only air inlet is at the outside drain.

Place the diver's head on the drain so that it is covered.

This becomes a kind of suction cup where air cannot escape. Move back and forth with both hands. This movement is essential to dislodge the debris responsible for the blockage.

Then remove the equipment and check to see if the water drains out again.

Repeat until all blockages are dislodged.

Using a mixture of baking soda and vinegar

The mixture of baking soda and vinegar creates a very powerful chemical reaction, resulting in a strong effervescence.

This recipe is effective in melting some of the debris that is blocking your outside drain.

Mix the two elements together and when the solution starts to fizzle, pour the entire solution down the clogged drain and follow with boiling water to rinse away the gnawed-on residue.

Sodium bicarbonate and salt

Yet another chemical reaction you can create with ingredients available in your kitchen.

It is the mixture of salt and baking soda.

This mixture is an alternative to the baking soda/vinegar chemical solution.

Mix the two substances together and pour it down the drain.

Wait 20 minutes to let the elements work, then pour very hot water down the drain and watch the reaction happen.

This trick is very effective in removing some blockages, but it doesn't work every time.

Switching to a high-pressure unclogging

If all the little tricks haven't done much good, then it's time to bring out the heavy artillery.

Some blockages are caused by very persistent debris that you can't dislodge with rudimentary means. So hire a plumbing company to do a high-pressure unclogging.

Some companies have specialized equipment for this type of troubleshooting.

They will be able to move their high-pressure pump truck and completely dislodge all the debris from your drain.

After the vehicle passes by, you will feel that the water drain in your interior has become more fluid.

This trick requires a large budget, but its effectiveness is no longer in doubt.
